Thursday 31st December- walk **** - Birdwatching along the Deben – sunny periods and cold.

Woke up to a good frost in Felixstowe this morning, in fact it barely got above freezing all day, very unusual for the coast! It was nice and sunny but didn’t fancy a bike ride in this cold so after a morning at home we had a cup of homemade soup before driving down to the Ferry for a birdwatching walk along the River Deben in hope of spotting some more Bearded Tits. We wrapped up well but because the wind was light, we were nice and toasty as we walked past the sailing club and through the boat yard, always one of our favourites. Past the house boats in the mud as the tide dropped and out onto the river path which was very muddy:( At Kings Fleet we dropped down to walk along the dyke but sadly no Bearded Tits today. We did see female reed Buntings and Stone Chats plus a fluffy Little Egret, Swans and Red Shanks so not too bad an afternoon. With the sun disappearing behind cloud we turned for home to make a real fire with our cuppa and cake.
